Hull KR’s World Club Challenge hopes alive with crisis talks set after Penrith’s stance

Hull KR’s hopes of participating in the 2025 World Club Challenge remain alive following crisis talks scheduled with Penrith Panthers. The Panthers, 2024 NRL premiers, initially expressed reservations about traveling to England for the match, citing logistical concerns and player welfare.

However, after further discussions, Penrith officials have agreed to reconsider their stance, paving the way for potential negotiations. Hull KR, who qualified for the Challenge by finishing as runners-up in the Super League, are eager to host the Panthers and showcase their team on the international stage.

The crisis talks will involve representatives from Hull KR, Penrith Panthers, and the Rugby Football League (RFL). Key issues to be addressed include scheduling, travel arrangements, and compensation. If successful, the World Club Challenge would take place in February 2025, providing Hull KR with a historic opportunity to test themselves against the best from the NRL.
