Alabama football’s thrilling win over Georgia on Saturday wasn’t enough to move the Crimson Tide to No. 1 in the coaches top 25 poll. The Crimson Tide checked in at No. 2, behind just Texas, after the 41-34 victory at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
However, when the Associated press media poll dropped later on Sunday, it was a different story. Alabama leapfrogged the Longhorns to take the top spot.
The Bulldogs had been the top-ranked team on the coaches poll entering Saturday’s game. However, following the defeat, where they trailed 30-7 at halftime before coming back to take the lead over UA, but squandered it on a Ryan Williams touchdown, Kirby Smart’s group fell to fifth, the same position it held in the AP poll a few hours later.
Texas became the new No. 1 on the coaches side after beating Mississippi State. The Longhorns were No. 2 on the coaches poll last week.
Ohio State came in third in the coaches rankings after beating Michigan State on the road. Tennessee sat fourth, one spot ahead of Georgia, with Oregon sixth and Penn State seventh.
Miami came in at No. 8, while Missouri sat ninth and Michigan rounded out the top ten. Ole Miss plummeted six spots after losing to Kentucky in Oxford on Saturday, dropping all the way to 11th.
The AP top 10 mirrored the coaches rankings. However, the Rebels took an even more precipitous drop after the loss, falling to 12th.
