Man City Eyes Celtic Star Kyogo Furuhashi as Potential Replacement for Julian Alvarez

Premier League champions Manchester City are deliberating whether to seek a replacement for Julian Alvarez following his £82 million transfer to Atletico Madrid. Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi is one of the players being considered. The Japan international has been with the Scottish Premiership champions since 2021.

Manchester City are weighing the possibility of pursuing Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi. The decision to enter the market for a replacement hinges on finding the right candidate, although no final decisions have been made yet.

Sky Sports News has reported that City also admire Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and that Pep Guardiola has the chance to re-sign Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona, who has been given permission to leave the La Liga club.

Kyogo joined Celtic in 2021 under former manager Ange Postecoglou after their time together at Yokohama F Marinos, a club in the City Football Group. The Japan international signed a new four-year contract with Celtic last summer, extending his stay until 2027. He has scored 73 goals in 135 appearances and won seven major honors.

The Republic of Ireland international has signed a five-year deal with the Scottish Premiership champions after a successful loan spell last season. Idah joined Brendan Rodgers’s team in February on loan, scoring nine goals in 19 games, including a crucial late winner in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers, helping Celtic secure the league title.

“I anticipate that with Manchester City, he would likely serve as a back-up, but his movement, pace, and work rate could still be valuable.

Regarding Celtic, there are links to Reo Hatate moving to Leicester and Matt O’Riley to Brighton. While I expect Celtic to bring in new players, the most notable transfer in Scotland might be O’Riley’s situation. He has been outstanding and is central to Celtic’s style of play. Brendan Rodgers will not want to lose him, but he understands the club’s model.”
