Joao Felix is poised to make a permanent return to Stamford Bridge after Chelsea finalized a £46.3m agreement with Atletico Madrid to secure the Portuguese forward. Felix previously spent six months on loan at Chelsea during the 2022/23 season. With this deal in place, Conor Gallagher’s potential transfer to Atletico Madrid is now back on track.
Joao Felix has successfully completed his medical and is in the final stages of completing a permanent move to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid, in a deal valued at up to £46.3m. As a result, Conor Gallagher’s transfer to the Spanish club is now back in progress.
Felix is reportedly set to join Chelsea for a fixed fee of £42m, with an additional £4.3m in potential add-ons, potentially bringing the total value of the transfer to over £46m.
The 24-year-old forward is anticipated to sign a six-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional year.
After securing a deal for Joao Felix, Chelsea plans to pursue a new striker during this transfer window. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has been a target throughout the summer, but as of now, Chelsea is not looking to sign him on a permanent basis.
Despite the collapse of Chelsea’s move for Atletico striker Samu Omorodion, Atletico Madrid remained keen on signing 24-year-old England midfielder Conor Gallagher. The club was impressed by his performance during a recent five-day stay in Madrid and how he handled the situation, further solidifying their interest in bringing him into their squad.
While in Madrid, Gallagher passed a medical and agreed to a five-year contract with Atletico. He was even photographed at the Wanda Metropolitano by the club before having to return.
Felix spent last season on loan at Barcelona, Atletico Madrid’s LaLiga rivals, where he netted 10 goals in 44 appearances. Prior to that, he had a six-month loan spell at Chelsea during the latter half of the 2022/23 season, scoring four goals in 16 Premier League matches.
Felix became the fifth-most expensive player in history when Atletico Madrid signed him from Benfica for £113 million in 2019.
