Fenhaus reflects on NASCAR Truck Series start, State Park Speedway memories

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Luke Fenhaus is fulfilling a life-long dream of being a professional racer. The Wausau native is a part-time driver of the #66 Ford F-150 for ThorSport Racing within the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

Even on a limited schedule in a new series for him, Fenhaus has found early success. Through three races, the 20-year-old has made two top-ten finishes, with his best being seventh place in Indianapolis on July 19th. It’s become a smooth transition surrounded by an elite team.

“They’re completely different than anything I’ve ever ran, they’re so aero-dependent at every race track,” says Fenhaus. “To rely on guys like Matt Crafton, Ben Rhodes, Ty Majeski, Jake Garcia is their other full-time truck. Those guys are all good and they’ve been doing this a lot longer than I have.”

Fenhaus and Majeski raced together on the Wisconsin circuit, with Majeski, who’s currently third in the Truck Series standings, being a native of Seymour, WI. Between Crafton and Rhodes, the pair of teammates have hauled in five combined truck series titles (Crafton with three, Rhodes with two).

Though Fenhaus has made his way through the ranks, the ride on his racing journey began right in his hometown. Fenhaus was a regular at State Park Speedway, living just 20 minutes away from the track.

With State Park Speedway likely shutting down at season’s end, Fenhaus is grateful for the memories driving in his own backyard.

“Unfortunately, it’s coming to an end,” says Fenhaus. “But it’s been really close to my heart and we’ve won a lot of races there and we’ve won a championship there. Met a lot of people there, it’s just been a fun place to go to. Thankful we had a good career there.”

Fenhaus capped off his time at State Park Speedway with the Larry Detjens Memorial on July 27th. To keep updated with Luke’s journey in racing
