Training camp is always full of surprises, especially for such an unpredictable team like the Dallas Cowboys. Sunday was no different, as it was announced Dallas had released cornerback Gareon Conley, who reportedly told the team he’s retiring after attempting an NFL comeback.
Despite this news coming out of nowhere, the Cowboys pivoted quickly to fill Conley’s roster spot.
The Cowboys claimed CB Kemon Hall off waivers from San Francisco. He replaces Gareon Conley, who was cut earlier Sunday. Hall was with the Chargers in 2021-22.

Dallas successfully claimed fellow CB Kemon Hall on waivers Sunday, who instantly fills the hole left by Conley’s departure. Hall was released on Saturday by the San Francisco 49ers in order to sign wide receiver Frank Darby, but it seems the Cowboys had been keeping tabs on the North Texas product.
This actually won’t be Hall’s first time in Big D. One of the teams Hall briefly spent time with during the early part of his career was Dallas, which signed him to the practice squad during the 2020 campaign. He didn’t make a regular-season appearance for the Cowboys, though, and was waived the following offseason.
Hall eventually made his NFL debut in 2021 with the Los Angeles Chargers, whom he suited up in 18 games for across the ’21-’22 campaigns. After being cut by Los Angeles in 2023, Hall caught on with the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad, but he’s now off to another destination once again.
Hall is still looking to make an impact in the NFL, with just eight tackles and a forced fumble to his name so far. And at 27 years old, it’s not like teams will keep taking chances on an aging player who’s far from a consistent contributor yet.
That being said, the reigning NFC champion 49ers bringing Hall in last year is notable and shows possibly some untapped potential. Perhaps Dallas will be the one to finally help him realize it.
