Some fans were mad at the fact that they could’ve gotten more in return for him if they had decided to trade him earlier, and they might be right.
However, it’s not like moving him for Josh Giddey was a bad decision at all.
Giddey was a lottery pick not so long ago, and while he’s not coming off a good season, it may have to do more with his fit with the Oklahoma City Thunder than his actual game.
Also, the Bulls desperately need a pass-first kind of guy, which is why coach Billy Donovan thinks he’s going to be quite impactful right away.
Talking to Frank Isola on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Donovan pointed out that the Bulls played a lot differently and significantly faster when Lonzo Ball was on the court.
“Hopefully we can get Lonzo back. He’s moving closer…he’s a guy that everyone enjoys playing with and I think the same can be said for Josh”

So, as much as they hope Lonzo will be back and is reportedly making strides in the right direction, they needed someone like Giddey to push the pace and spread the wealth all over the floor.
Notably, the fact that they went after Giddey not only proves that they’re finally ready to rebuild but also that, contrary to what they’re saying, Ball might not be back at all, or at least they don’t trust him to be the player he once was.
Whatever the case, Giddey is quite young and seems to be a tailor-made fit for what the Bulls desperately craved, so it made perfect sense for both parties here.
