Patrick Williams and the Chicago Bulls have agreed to a five-year, $90 million contract extension ¹ ² ³. The deal includes a fifth-year player option for Williams, who was expected to become a restricted free agent next month ¹. Williams’ contract extension is an average of $18 million a season, which is between what the Bulls offered before last season ($16 million a season) and what Williams wanted at more than $20 million a year ².

Williams was the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has career averages of 9.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting 41.0 percent from the three-point line in 213 games ¹. However, he only played 43 games last season due to a foot injury, and he put up 10.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game ¹.

The Bulls are rebuilding their roster and have acquired 21-year-old Josh Giddey and drafted Matas Buzelis ². Additionally, the team is trying to trade veteran wing Zach LaVine this offseason, but the market for him is currently lukewarm ².
