Our series of offseason opponent breakdowns on theRams.com continues as we take a look at the Los Angeles Rams’ Week 5 home game against the Green Bay Packers, set for October 6 at 1:25 p.m. PT on CBS.
According to research from ESPN Stats & Information, the Green Bay Packers began the previous season with the NFL’s youngest active roster, boasting an average age of 25.7. Despite this youthful lineup, some analysts speculated that the Packers could secure a spot in the NFC Wild Card race, although this prediction wasn’t universally agreed upon.
The situation mirrored that of the Rams, who also had one of the league’s youngest rosters. Similar to Los Angeles, Green Bay exceeded external expectations.
Initially, the outlook wasn’t promising, particularly with a 3-6 record up to Week 10. However, a strong finish with a 6-2 record over the final eight weeks of the season, including a crucial win over the Bears in Week 18 to secure a playoff berth, propelled them forward and clinched the No. 7 seed.
In the playoffs, the Packers pulled off a stunning victory against the Cowboys with a score of 48-32 at AT&T Stadium in the wild card round. However, their journey came to an end in the divisional round as they succumbed to a 24-21 defeat against the 49ers.
Following Aaron Rodgers’ departure to the Jets, third-year quarterback Jordan Love stepped up to the plate and thrived in his inaugural season as the Packers’ starter. Love showcased his skills by completing 64.2% of his passes, accumulating 4,159 yards, and notching an impressive 32 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
