Former Reading FC players Omar Richards and Nelson Abbey celebrated a significant milestone as their current team, Olympiacos, secured the Europa Conference League title. Olympiacos made history by becoming the first Greek club to win a major European trophy, triumphing over Fiorentina in the final.
Despite Richards being an unused substitute and Abbey not making the matchday squad, their association with the victorious team marks a remarkable achievement in their careers. This success highlights Olympiacos’s growing prominence in European football and showcases the depth of talent within their squad, including contributions from former Reading FC players.
Omar Richards, who made 104 appearances for Reading FC, left the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. He subsequently signed with Bayern Munich, also on a free transfer. After spending a year with Bayern, Richards moved to Nottingham Forest, and for the 2023/24 season, he joined Olympiacos on loan. During his loan spell, Richards has made 15 appearances across all competitions, including two in the Europa Conference League.
Meanwhile, Nelson Abbey began the 2023/24 season with Reading FC. His impressive performances allowed him to break into the first team, showcasing his potential and earning recognition for his contributions on the field.
The success of Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League provided both players with an opportunity to celebrate a historic achievement, even if they did not actively participate in the final match.
