SAD NEWS : Sing in of Journeyman Outfielder to replace Ronald Acuña Jr. Injury

The Atlanta Braves are facing the challenge of replacing one of their star players once again, marking the second time in three years.

Ronald Acuña Jr., the current National League Most Valuable Player, is sidelined for the season due to a torn ACL. This is his second ACL injury in three years. Acuña Jr. was previously out for half of the 2021 season and the start of the 2022 season after tearing his ACL in July 2021. Now, he will be absent for the rest of 2024 and probably the start of 2025.

This is a significant setback for the Braves, a team with consistent World Series ambitions. They managed to secure the championship in 2021 without Acuña and will need to replicate that success in 2024 to claim another title.

In 2021, following Acuña’s ACL tear, the Braves swiftly acted to fill the void. They made four key outfield acquisitions before the trade deadline, bringing in Joc Pederson, Jorge Soler, Eddie Rosario, and Cl.

All four outfielders were crucial to the Braves’ World Series run, with Rosario earning NLCS MVP and Soler winning the World Series MVP. Currently, the Braves have outfielders Adam Duvall, Michael Harris II, and Jarred Kelenic on the roster, but they might seek additional reinforcements before the trade deadline to emulate their 2021 success — a process they’ve already begun.

On Wednesday, the Braves signed journeyman outfielder Ramón Laureano to a minor league deal after he was designated for assignment and subsequently released by the Cleveland Guardians, according to the team’s transaction log.
