The Royals have lost 18 points under current owner Dai Yongge due to overspending and late payments, underscoring the urgent need for a takeover at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Fortunately, the club is now in an exclusivity period for a potential takeover.

However, the Berkshire team remains in limbo until the takeover is finalized, and there is no assurance that the sale will be completed, as reinforced by a recent update.

Their poor performance in League One last season highlights the critical need to resolve ownership issues before the next season. However, there are no assurances that the sale will be finalized in time for the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

When the Royals entered their period of exclusivity in late March, the club announced that a sale might take up to two months to finalize.

However, two months have now passed without a sale materializing, with discussions still “ongoing” at this point.

Providing an update on X, the Supporters’ Trust at Reading (STAR) confirmed that talks have not broken down but also mentioned that there wasn’t any “good news” to report.

It appears that the negotiations are at a delicate stage, and it is uncertain whether a deal will be completed or not.
