SAD NEWS: Chicago Sky dominates New York as Liberty suffer a 101-53 defeat in preseason opener….

Chicago arrived not just to participate but to dominate, while New York seemed to be there for a scrimmage. Nonetheless, Jaylyn Sherrod’s performance was a highlight. In the preseason game on Tuesday night, the New York Liberty displayed a collectively considerate effort by missing numerous semi-open layups during the first quarter against the Chicago Sky. This allowed the Sky to gain momentum early on in the game.

For the Sky, the game marked a promising beginning. Angel Reese, a rookie from LSU, showcased her skills with 13 points and 5 rebounds, including impressive layups even over Breanna Stewart. Marina Mabrey contributed with deep three-pointers, Dana Evans penetrated the paint effortlessly, and Chennedy Carter continued the momentum off the bench, leading Chicago to a decisive 101-53 victory.

Head Coach Teresa Weatherspoon, a Liberty legend, was notably fired up throughout the game, even earning a technical foul while leading her team to victory. Despite missing key player Kamilla Cardoso due to injury, the Sky’s performance ignited Wintrust Arena and signaled a new era for the team.

The Liberty, however, will likely brush off this loss and focus on the upcoming season, albeit with a slight increase in rivalry intensity against the Sky. The defeat prompts questions about their motivation going forward, especially as they aim to contend for the title in their second year. While it’s early to draw conclusions from this preseason loss, it serves as a reminder for the Liberty to recommit to the grind of the season ahead.

Coach Sandy Brondello expressed dissatisfaction with her team’s performance, emphasizing the need for improvement in various areas. Despite the loss, undrafted rookie Jaylyn Sherrod showcased her talent and provided excitement for Liberty fans.
