Reading FC captain Andy Yiadom shared a heartfelt message on social media following the conclusion of the team’s challenging League One season with a 3-2 victory over Blackpool.
Yiadom, who has been sidelined due to injury for the last three matches, saw Jeriel Dorsett and Kelvin Abrefa step in as replacements for him. This marked the end of Yiadom’s sixth season with the club, during which he did not score a goal and had his lowest match involvement since the injury-plagued 2020/21 season.
Despite these challenges, Yiadom achieved a significant milestone by making his 200th club appearance, highlighting his enduring contribution to Reading FC since his time at Barnet and Barnsley.
After the win against Blackpool, Yiadom took to social media to express his gratitude, stating, “Through adversity, this team stuck together through thick and thin. A big thank you to all the players and staff who moved on but helped us along the way, the backroom staff who worked tirelessly despite what was happening behind the scenes, and the fans who were with us every step of the way.”
Manager Ruben Selles praised Yiadom’s impact on the team, emphasizing his understanding of the game and his role as a unifying force in the dressing room amidst various changes. Selles acknowledged Yiadom’s growth in the captaincy role throughout the season, highlighting his importance to the team’s dynamics and character development.
