Andy Carroll’s tenure at Reading FC, once filled with promise and excitement, was marred by a pivotal moment that tarnished his reputation among supporters and critics alike. Despite initially making a significant impact on the team with his experience and goal-scoring ability, a costly handball incident during a crucial match against Luton Town led to his dismissal and subsequent downfall at the club.
When Carroll initially joined Reading in November 2021, his Premier League pedigree and goal-scoring prowess suggested a potentially fruitful partnership. However, concerns lingered over his injury history. Nonetheless, he made an immediate impression, scoring on his debut against Swansea City and contributing to a victory for Veljko Paunovic’s side.
Despite a brief but productive spell at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, where he netted two goals in eight appearances, Carroll’s journey took a detour when he moved to West Bromwich Albion in January upon the expiration of his contract. His time at Albion was marred by managerial changes and limited opportunities, leading to his release in the summer of 2022.

While he remained relatively fit during his second stint, his impact on the pitch was not as significant as anticipated. Despite registering a respectable number of goals, his legacy at Reading was overshadowed by the controversial handball incident and mixed opinions among the fanbase.
