Green Bay Packers Showing Interest In Sleeper Quarterback

The emergence of Jordan Love as the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback of the future has been evident. With a strong performance thus far, Love has solidified his position as the face of the franchise, unless he encounters a significant downturn in 2024.

However, there are uncertainties behind Love. Sean Clifford currently serves as the Packers’ backup quarterback, drafted in the fifth round last spring. While the team appears to favor Clifford, there remains a need to bolster depth and security at the position.

To address this, the Packers are exploring options in the upcoming draft. UTEP quarterback Gavin Hardison recently visited the team, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Media. Hardison’s 2023 season was shortened due to an elbow injury requiring Tommy John surgery, limiting him to just five games. Despite this setback, he managed 947 passing yards, five touchdowns, and seven interceptions, completing 56.6% of his passes.

Hardison’s journey at UTEP began in 2019, gradually earning playing time starting in 2020. His breakout year came in 2021 when he became the full-time starter, posting 3,218 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, with a completion rate of 55.5%. Subsequent seasons saw him tally 2,044 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 2022.

While Hardison’s statistics may not dazzle, his physical attributes, including size, arm strength, and mobility, could intrigue NFL teams seeking potential roster additions. Despite slim prospects of being drafted, Green Bay may consider him as an undrafted free agent.
