Contract Duration: Green Bay Packers have announced the contract that their new players will spend with the team…

In Green Bay, Wisconsin, on May 3, 2023, the Green Bay Packers officially extended Jordan Love’s contract for one year. As of May 3, 2024, Love will have the option to sign another extension, likely for a longer duration and with significantly increased earnings.

The anticipated increase in earnings stems from Love’s impressive performance in the latter part of the 2023 season. Joel Corry, a former NFL agent cited by CBS Sports, suggests that Love’s negotiating team will aim for a contract surpassing the average of Aaron Rodgers’ final contract extension with the Packers in 2022, which amounted to $50,271,667 over three years.

In practical terms, this means Love is poised to receive compensation comparable to top-tier quarterbacks. Speculatively, if Love were to secure a five-year contract valued at $255 million, averaging $51 million per season, he would rank among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league, trailing only players like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen, and matching Jalen Hurts in total contract value.

General manager Brian Gutekunst expressed confidence in Love’s abilities, emphasizing the team’s intention to build around him. Talks of Love’s impending extension indicate the Packers’ commitment to securing stability at the quarterback position. While there’s no immediate rush from the team’s perspective, Love might feel some urgency to finalize the deal to secure his financial future, especially considering the risk of potential injuries.

Love’s performance during the 2023 season showcased both struggles and remarkable improvement. Initially, he faced challenges with interceptions and completion rates below 60 percent. However, in the latter part of the season and playoffs, Love demonstrated MVP-caliber performance, defeating top-tier quarterbacks like Mahomes and nearly overcoming formidable opponents like Dak Prescott and Brock Purdy.

Given Love’s potential and recent achievements, the impending contract extension signifies a substantial increase from his current average salary of $13.5 million.
