“He will soon be on the market, although teams with available salary cap space might not have the advantage in acquiring him.”
“Is this potentially the strategy the Patriots are considering? Trading down to fortify the team, establish a winning culture, and bring in an experienced quarterback next season,” suggested Wright.
A former fourth-round selection from Mississippi State in 2016, Prescott quickly rose to prominence with the Cowboys during his rookie year. Throughout his career, he has earned recognition with three Pro Bowl selections and guided the Cowboys to five playoff appearances.
Prescott boasts impressive statistics, accumulating 29,459 passing yards and 202 touchdowns against 74 interceptions. While maintaining a solid 73-41 record in regular-season games, his playoff record stands at 2-5.
In addition to his on-field performance, Prescott’s durability has been commendable, having played complete seasons in all but two years (2020 and 2022), with only one game missed in 2021.
Cowboys 7-Round Mock Draft: Finally Fixing the Ground Game.
With the 2024 NFL Draft quickly approaching, the Dallas Cowboys have several holes to fill on their roster. Their inactivity in free agency has been worse than ever and they appear to be ready to blame Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy should everything fall apart.
Prescott and McCarthy each enter the final year of their current deals and McCarthy is a lame duck, whereas Prescott could be in for a huge payday. Dallas is potentially allowing him to hit the open market and if they think his contract demands are absurd now, just wait until a few desperate teams start backing up the Brinks truck.
Hopefully, it won’t come to that. But the best way to keep the sky from falling is to win in 2024 and hitting on every pick in the 2024 NFL Draft will be critical for that to happen. That’s exactly what we attempt in this Cowboys 7-round mock draft.
Round 1, Pick 24: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon
With their first pick, the Cowboys land the top center in this class in Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon. Powers-Johnson boasts NFL size at 6-foot-3 and 320 pounds and has experience all over the line. However, his work at center during 2023 proved that’s where he belongs.
Tyler Biadasz signed with the Washington Commanders in free agency after his market proved greater than anticipated. Brock Hoffman proved he can play off the bench in 2023 but he’s far from a full-time option. Powers-Johnson, on the other hand, gives them a player who can hold down the spot for the next decade or more.
Dallas could field a decent starting line with this addition, if they were to wise up and move Tyler Smith to left tackle. Having Smith, T.J. Bass, Powers-Johnson, Zack Martin, and Terence Steele isn’t half bad — provided Steele can bounce back.
