The day commenced with the acquisition of Quez Watkins, a former wide receiver from the Philadelphia Eagles, joining their ranks.
Following this, reports emerged of the addition of seasoned quarterback Kyle Allen, rounding out the quarterback lineup.
To bolster their defensive line, the team opted to inject some veteran experience.
During discussions with the press at the NFL Owners Meeting on March 25, Steelers General Manager Omar Khan disclosed that the team had secured an agreement with veteran defensive end Dean Lowry.
Lowry’s tenure with the Packers
Lowry entered the NFL scene as a fourth-round pick for the Green Bay Packers in 2016, embarking on a lengthy stint with the team.
His journey in Green Bay had a humble start, marked by a mere 8 tackles initially.
However, the following year showcased a significant shift in his role within the Packers, starting 11 games and tallying 32 tackles, including a pivotal fumble recovery for a touchdown.
In the subsequent season, he further solidified his position, starting eight games out of 16 and notching 44 tackles along with three sacks.
Subsequently, he entrenched himself as a regular starter for Green Bay, maintaining this status from 2019 to 2021, accumulating 125 tackles and 8 sacks over three seasons.
After completing his seventh year with the Packers, Lowry’s contract expired, leading him to opt for a divisional rival.
In 2023, he signed a two-year deal with the Vikings, although his inaugural season with them was curtailed to nine games due to a pectoral injury.
Following his release from the Vikings, the Steelers seized the opportunity to enlist Lowry, enhancing the depth of their defensive line.
