The Saints are signing free agent pass rusher Chase Young, according to multiple reports. New Orleans had him in for a visit on Monday after it was originally rescheduled from last week.
Young, the former No. 2 overall pick from 2020’s draft and Defensive Rookie of the Year, will turn 25 in April and gives the Saints a major boost to their edge group. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted that Young wanted to play with Cam Jordan, while CBS Sports Insider Josina Anderson is reporting it’s a one-year deal worth up to $13 million.
The Saints added Willie Gay Jr. on the defensive side last week, and Young now gives them an extra punch at a position they needed to get a little stronger at. New Orleans now has a very crowded edge group with Young, Jordan, Carl Granderson, Payton Turner, Tanoh Kpassagnon and Isaiah Foskey. It’ll be fascinating to see what happens there. For now, it’s a pretty solid add for Dennis Allen’s defense.
