CONFIRMED DONE DEAL: Packers make big free agent signings official….

The Green Bay Packers, having made it to the divisional round of the NFC playoffs in 2023, are now focusing on bolstering their roster for the upcoming season. General manager Brian Gutekunst is leading the charge during NFL free agency to strengthen the team.

In a surprising move, running back AJ Dillon, initially not expected to return, agreed to a one-year contract with the Packers. This unexpected development pairs Dillon with Josh Jacobs to form a new backfield duo. Despite a decline in per-carry averages and tackling abilities, Dillon has consistently contributed positively to the team’s performance, especially in maintaining favorable down-and-distance situations and showcasing underrated skills in the passing game.

Additionally, the Packers tendered contracts to three free agents, namely punter Daniel Whelan, running back Emanuel Wilson, and offensive tackle Caleb Jones. Linebacker Kristian Welch, a significant contributor on special teams last season, also re-signed with the team on a one-year deal.

Furthermore, notable signings include safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs, with the Packers structuring their contracts to manage salary cap constraints effectively. However, the team also saw departures, including guard Jon Runyan signing with the New York Giants and the release of Aaron Jones, a beloved figure both on and off the field.

In other significant moves, the Packers released Darnell Savage, who subsequently joined the Jacksonville Jaguars, and parted ways with left tackle David Bakhtiari. Bakhtiari, while expressing a desire to continue playing, bid farewell to Green Bay, leaving the team with considerable cap space for future endeavors.

As free agency progresses, the Packers aim to address various positional needs while navigating financial constraints, aiming to build a competitive roster for the upcoming season.
