Craig Roh, a former defensive end for both the Michigan Wolverines and the CFL, has passed away at the age of 33 after a valiant 18-month battle with colon cancer. His wife, Chelsea, shared the heartbreaking news on Wednesday morning through a social media announcement.
In her message, Chelsea Roh revealed that Craig had been privately fighting Stage IV colon cancer and peacefully passed away on February 26th. Despite his struggle, Craig chose to keep his battle private, preferring to focus on his professional endeavors and personal aspirations. He was dedicated to delivering top-notch content and building innovative products. Chelsea also mentioned that Craig had outlined plans for his business, indicating forthcoming developments.
During his collegiate years from 2009 to 2012, Roh made significant contributions to the Michigan Wolverines football team, setting a program record with 51 consecutive starts. His outstanding performance earned him recognition with a second-team All-Big Ten honor following the 2012 season. Subsequently, he pursued opportunities in the NFL, signing with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent. Although he spent two seasons with the team’s practice squad, he was released in August 2014.
Roh then ventured north to Canada, joining the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 2015 to 2017. He later transitioned to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018, where he achieved a career-best of eight sacks. Notably, Roh clinched the 2019 Grey Cup with the Blue Bombers before concluding his CFL career with the Toronto Argonauts.
Craig Roh’s legacy extends beyond his achievements on the field, as he touched the lives of many with his resilience and determination. He leaves behind a lasting impact on both the football community and those who knew him personally.
