Former Green Bay Packers tight end Tyrone Davis passed away at the age of 50 earlier this month, as announced by the team on Wednesday. Davis had a six-season tenure with the Packers following two seasons with the New York Jets, having been drafted by the Jets in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL Draft.

According to reports, Davis died on October 2 after battling an undisclosed illness. During his time with the Packers, he started in 27 of 69 games and was part of the team that competed in Super Bowl XXXII, which Green Bay lost to the Denver Broncos.

Davis, who also played football as a wide receiver at the University of Virginia, holds the record for the most career touchdown catches at the school with 28.

Former Packers player Earl Dotson paid tribute to Davis on Facebook, recalling their time together on the team. Davis is survived by his mother and four children, as mentioned in his obituary.

NFL vice president of football development, Roman Oben, expressed his condolences on Twitter, remembering Davis as an exceptional player and a great person.
