The Green Bay Packers have restructured linebacker Rashan Gary’s contract in a move aimed at saving money, as reported by Tom Pelissero. Gary, a key defender for the Packers, had a notable 2023 season despite a setback due to injury in 2022.
In 2023, Gary demonstrated his prowess with 9.0 sacks, 22 quarterback hits, and seven tackles for loss during the regular season. Although he did not record any sacks or tackles for loss in the playoffs, his performance contributed significantly to the team’s success.
Having recently signed a contract extension worth $96 million over four years, Gary’s role in the Packers’ defense is expected to remain substantial. The team’s defense, bolstered by Gary’s contributions, helped secure their ranking as the 10th best in the league in terms of points allowed during the 2023 regular season.
Looking ahead, the Packers aim to address their secondary needs, among other areas, with the 11 picks they possess in the upcoming April draft. Despite some challenges, the Packers find themselves in an optimistic position with promising prospects for the future, especially with young talents like quarterback Jordan Love and defensive standout Rashan Gary.
