SAD NEWS: Green Bay Packers football legend who passes away.

Former Green Bay Packers fullback John Brockington, hailing from Brooklyn, passed away at 74, the team announced on Friday. He was chosen as the ninth overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft after his college career at Ohio State.

Brockington made a significant impact in his rookie year, earning the title of Offensive Rookie of the Year and securing a first-team All-Pro recognition. He repeated this accomplishment in 1973 and was also named to the second team in 1972. During his initial three seasons, he showcased remarkable performance, rushing for 3,276 yards on 755 attempts and scoring 15 touchdowns. Additionally, he stood out with his receiving ability, catching two touchdowns and leading the NFL in total touches in 1974.

His tenure with the Packers lasted until 1977, after which he joined the Kansas City Chiefs. At the time of his retirement, Brockington held the second-highest rushing yardage in Packers history, a record that currently places him fourth in franchise history.

Beyond his contributions on the field, Brockington’s legacy extends to his philanthropic efforts. Following a kidney transplant in 2002, he established the John Brockington Foundation to support individuals battling kidney disease.
