CONFIRMED: Atlanta Braves have selected one of their team players to serve as interim head coach for the next couple of days…..

The Atlanta Braves have nominated another head coach from among their team players as their head coach for the next two to three days.

For the next two to three days, the Atlanta Braves will have a different head coach chosen by their team members.

The Atlanta Braves will compete with other teams to bolster their roster as the winter meetings draw near. They now have three coaching positions that they need to fill this winter in addition to adding players to the roster. Drew French, the bullpen coach from the previous season, is the most recent Braves coach to be signed by an American League team.

French has been the Braves bullpen coach since the 2021 Atlanta World Series season. Since joining the Braves, Atlanta’s bullpens have continuously ranked among the best in all of baseball. The Braves bullpen has a combined ERA of 3.61 (7th best in MLB) and FIP of 3.77 (4th best in MLB) throughout those three seasons.

It seems like the departure of French from the Braves adds to the challenges they face in rebuilding their coaching staff. With his departure, there’s now a pitching vacancy that needs to be filled, further compounding the loss of other coaches who have left for different teams.

French’s track record with the Houston Astros’ minor league team, particularly setting a franchise record with over 1,200 strikeouts during his tenure, highlights his effectiveness as a pitching coach. His departure leaves big shoes to fill for the Braves, especially considering the recent success of their pitching staff.

The Baltimore Orioles’ bullpen played a significant role in their successful 2023 season, which could be attributed in part to effective coaching. With the Orioles finishing first in baseball in bullpen ERA and FIP, there’s evidence to suggest that good coaching can make a difference in a team’s performance.

As for the Braves’ coaching search, it’s mentioned that not much has been disclosed by Alex Anthopoulos, suggesting a characteristic level of secrecy surrounding such matters. However, it’s expected that once the offseason progresses, the Braves will begin interviewing both internal and external candidates to fill the coaching vacancies. This indicates a proactive approach to addressing the staffing needs of the team.

Overall, the departure of French and the other coaches presents a challenge for the Braves, but with a strategic approach to the coaching search, they can hopefully find suitable replacements to continue the team’s success.
