NBA REPORT: UNC Basketball Center Armando Bacot Sets Program Record.
Saturday’s 75-72 victory against Miami secured UNC basketball’s winning record in ACC away games, boosting the No. 3 Tar Heels to a 6-1 standing in conference action on opponents’ courts.
The matchup marked Bacot’s 156th appearance in a UNC jersey, surpassing Leaky Black’s previous record of 155 games played. Bacot, a fifth-year player, also holds the record for the most starting nods in Tar Heel history, with 155 under his belt. However, Deon Thompson still holds the record for the most games played in a four-year career, with 152.
During the game, Bacot achieved his 79th
ouble-double, a record among UNC basketball players. He contributed 10 points and 15 rebounds in 37 minutes on the court, surpassing Tim Duncan’s rebound record and securing the No. 3 spot on the all-time ACC list with 1,581 rebounds.
Moreover, Bacot moved past Sam Perkins to claim the third position on the Tar Heels’ all-time scoring list with 2,149 points, trailing Phil Ford by only 141 points. With seven regular season games and postseason play ahead, Bacot is poised to potentially surpass Ford and end up behind only Tyler Hansbrough in scoring.
Bacot’s two blocks against the Hurricanes also marked a milestone, making him the first UNC basketball player to accumulate at least 2,000 points, 1,500 rebounds, 200 blocks, and 100 steals in his career.
