Steph Curry responds to ‘Difficult’ Warriors Trade Deadline Decision.

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry displayed a somber expression, not due to their inactivity at the trade deadline, but rather due to the fate of one of their veteran players.

The Warriors made a trade involving Cory Joseph, a move that left Curry disheartened despite reports indicating they were focusing on retaining everyone except Curry before the February 8 trade deadline.

“It’s tough losing Cory. Anyone familiar with Cory Joseph knows his professionalism and positive presence; he’s the epitome of a pro,” Curry expressed to reporters following his impressive 42-point performance in the Warriors’ 131-109 victory over the Indiana Pacers. “He brings a great spirit to the locker room and mentors the young guys. He’s seasoned and understands the game, making him a vital connection. We’ll miss him, no doubt. It’s tough, but I understand the business aspect; however, I’ll miss him dearly.”

Joseph traveled with the team to Indiana only to be traded to the Pacers along with $5.8 million for a 2024 second-round pick. Unfortunately, the Pacers later waived the 32-year-old guard, leaving him without a team. The Warriors, on the other hand, managed to save $8 million in luxury tax, as reported by The Athletic’s John Hollinger.

Curry was informed about the team’s trade deadline options, even those that didn’t come to fruition.

“Yes, there were numerous options discussed, but until they materialize, as a player, you don’t dwell too much on them,” Curry explained. “I’m probably only aware of half of the news and discussions that go on in their meetings and such.”

Reports suggested that the Warriors rejected a potential deal for All-Defensive guard and NBA champion Alex Caruso.

“In trade discussions with the Golden State Warriors involving Caruso, sources mentioned that the Bulls inquired about Jonathan Kuminga’s availability,” wrote KC Johnson of NBC Sports-Chicago on February 8. “However, the Bulls were clear in their stance that they didn’t want to trade Caruso, especially for a package involving other young pieces like Moses Moody, unless they were presented with an extraordinary offer.”

Kuminga has solidified his position as a key player for the Warriors.

“He’s definitely at that level,” commented Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. via The Athletic. “I couldn’t envision a scenario where Jonathan wouldn’t remain with us after the deadline.”

Opting not to make any trades at the deadline, the Warriors believe they can reverse their season’s trajectory, especially after a successful 4-1 road trip.

“It’s about confidence,” Curry emphasized. “This team, this challenge is ours. We possess great energy and camaraderie. The remainder of the season is in our hands; we aim to accumulate as many wins as possible and become a team that opponents dread facing in the playoffs.”

The Warriors seek to extend their three-game winning streak as they host the equally formidable Phoenix Suns on Saturday, February 10. The Suns, with a record of 31-21, are also riding high on a three-game winning streak and made an acquisition in Royce O’Neale at the trade deadline.
