The transfer is finalized Celtic has successfully outmaneuvered both Bayern Munich and Ajax in securing the signing of a forward player.

Celtic is nearing their first signing of the January transfer window, with negotiations progressing for Rapid Vienna winger Nicolas Kuhn, a former Ajax and Bayern Munich attacker once dubbed the ‘next Messi’. The discussions with Rapid Vienna commenced earlier this week, following Celtic’s monitoring of Kuhn’s performance over several months.

Reportedly, Rapid Vienna is seeking a fee close to 3 million euros for the 24-year-old German winger, who has impressed with three goals and seven assists in 22 appearances this season. Kuhn’s football journey saw him spend time in RB Leipzig’s youth setup before securing a 2 million euros move to Ajax at 18. He later joined Bayern Munich, initially on loan in 2020.

Having represented Germany at various youth levels, Kuhn gained attention during the Under-17 World Cup in India in 2017, where German media dubbed him the “next Messi.” Rapid Vienna’s sporting director, Markus Katzer, confirmed receiving offers for Kuhn, though he refrained from disclosing the interested clubs.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers aims to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the season, especially with several players unavailable due to international duties and loan returns. As the squad returns from the winter break, Rodgers seeks quality reinforcements, with Kuhn appearing to be the likely addition as a winger, joining potentially three arrivals, including a left-back and striker, as Rodgers looks to trim the squad further.
