The Green Bay Packers’ run this season has surpassed expectations, to say the least. But with the ascension of Jordan Love as the team’s most important player, someone like AJ Dillon on the roster isn’t really a necessity in the coming seasons.
Sure, there are certain guys that made mistakes during the past season who might be let go. One good example, of course, is Anders Carlson and how his missed kick led the San Francisco 49ers to eliminate the Packers from contention.
AJ Dillon, in particular, has regressed this season. Apart from missing the Packers’ final two games due to thumb and neck injuries, the running back saw his numbers dip to 3.4 yards per carry, the lowest of his career.
But even if that’s the case, his relatively young age of 25 makes him an asset for the Packers in the event they want to trade the running back for picks or another player to improve the roster.
Green Bay Packers’ AJ Dillon Seen As An Ideal Target for Chicago Bears
Dillon’s value can seen as a good chip for Green Bay in the upcoming offseason. According to Maurice Jones-Drew, NFL analyst, the Packers’ running back can still be of service to another team.
“Still, when Dillon’s healthy, I think he can provide a team with a hard-nosed, physical running back to wear down opposing defenses late in the season. That’s why I’ve paired him with Chicago, where he could join Khalil Herbert in the backfield and produce in cold-weather games,” Jones-Drew wrote.
There’s also the possibility of Justin Fields leaving in 2024, opening the possibility of a rookie quarterback handling the Chicago Bears’ offense. If this happens, A veteran runningback like Dillon will do wonders in Chicago.
Nothing is set in stone and anything can happen in the offseason. In any case, Dillon will definitely be a good catch for any team willing to pay for his services next season.
