49ers coach Kyle Shanahan provides an update on Deebo Samuel’s status ahead of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions.
SANTA CLARA — Wide receiver Deebo Samuel has been cleared for takeoff for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game at Levi’s Stadium.
The versatile wide receiver for the 49ers, Samuel, participated in his second practice day on Friday and wasn’t even mentioned on San Francisco’s injury report for the team’s championship matchup with the Detroit Lions.
The 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan declared, “It’s huge.” “Although he was a little frightened at the start of the week, it’s good news for us that he’s free to go today.”The only player on the 49ers’ 53-man roster who is classified as questionable for the game is linebacker Oren Burks (shoulder). Shanahan reported that Burk had a collision on Thursday during practice.
In the 49ers’ NFC Divisional Playoff victory against the Green Bay Packers, Samuel only saw nine snaps of action. The first quarter of the season, he suffered a shoulder injury.
After sitting out practice on Wednesday, Samuel was a limited participant in practice Thursday and took part in a full practice on Friday.

The 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan declared, “It’s huge.” “At the start of the week, it was a little scary, but today he was totally focused.” He was observed sprinting and receiving passes, some of which required him to reach over his head in order to bring down.
Samuel’s importance to the 49ers offense made his status a major plot point this week. Due to a hairline shoulder fracture, he was sidelined for the most of the 49ers’ Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns and was unable to play for the next two games. The 49ers were defeated.
The Lions will not have the services of starting left guard Jonah Jackson, who sustained a knee injury in the team’s 31-23 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Kayode Awosika will get the start in place of Jackson. Awasika started three games this season and five in his first two NFL seasons.
