The Green Bay Packers are requesting permission to interview one of the highly sought-after and esteemed Dallas Cowboys coaches.
Not a moment has passed while the Green Bay Packers search for a new defensive coordinator. Joe Barry, the Packers’ defensive coordinator since 2021, was fired, as was disclosed earlier this week. The defense, which features eight past first-round picks and other elite talent, had yet another unsatisfactory season before the decision was made.
The first person who was reportedly interviewed to fill the position vacated by Barry was former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley. Barry worked under Staley in 2020 when the latter was the defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams. Hiring Staley would ensure that Green Bay’s defensive scheme would remain relatively the same.
It was also revealed earlier on Friday that the Packers had asked for authorization to speak with Bobby Babich, the linebackers coach for the Buffalo Bills. Babich has already been interviewed by the New York Giants for the position of defensive coordinator. Since joining the Bills in 2017, Babich has contributed to the linebacker unit’s rise to the top of the NFL.
In addition to Staley and Babich, it has also been reported that Green Bay has asked the Dallas Cowboys for permission to interview one of their defensive coaches. Not Al Harris, the former Packers cornerback who serves as the Cowboys’ defensive backs coach, though, as many fans would have hoped.
