The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 143-110, securing a historic victory thanks to an outstanding shooting display on the road. Nevertheless, the positive atmosphere was somewhat dashed when one of their main players suffered a possibly dangerous injury. During a shot-blocking play in the third quarter, Kristaps Porzingis sprained his left ankle and hobbled to the locker room. According to Jay King of The Athletic, he was immediately rated as iffy to return, but he did return to the Celtics bench to begin the last period. The native of Latvia, who finished with 19 points and four rebounds, was eventually declared ineligible.

Although the former All-Star’s prompt return to the club is encouraging, supporters will always be concerned if he sustains an injury. In his nine-year career, Porzingis has only missed three regular season games with 65 or more points. This year, he has already missed twelve, and more could come with this setback. Boston’s prospects of winning a title will likely be significantly reduced if the 28-year-old center is once again forced to deal with nagging health issues come postseason time.

The Celtics’ biggest and only roadblock to the NBA Finals may be their health.
If one of the Celtics’ excellent starters gets injured, concerns about their bench depth become much more apparent. Still, the supporting cast is undoubtedly present in South Beach. Luke Kornet scored 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting, and his role will grow if Kristaps Porzingis is sidelined for any length of time. Veteran Al Horford had an effective game with eight points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Point guard Payton Pritchard scored eleven points as well.

Although the former All-Star’s prompt return to the club is encouraging, supporters will always be concerned if he sustains an injury. Only three regular seasons have Porzingis played 65 or more games.
