Philadelphia Phillies sign left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard to a 1-year contract
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Phillies have signed left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard to a one-year contract.
The 26-year-old Allard pitched in just four games last season for Atlanta.
He spent four seasons with Texas (2019-22) and is 9-24 with a 6.10 ERA and one save over parts of six major league seasons with the Braves and Rangers.
The 6-foot-1, Anaheim, Calif., native was originally selected by the Braves in the first round (No. 14 overall) of the 2015 MLB Draft.

Kolby Allard’s career actually began with the Braves organization as he was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2015 draft. He would go on to make his debut with the team a few years later in 2018 but would only make three appearances with the Braves before he was traded to the Rangers for Chris Martin.
Flash forward to the winter of 2022, and the Braves re-acquired Kolby Allard for Jake Odorizzi. Allard was brought in to compete for one of the final spots in the rotation, but unfortunately, a severe oblique strain forced him to begin the season on the 60-day IL.
That would be the story of Allard’s 2023 campaign. He did end up returning from the oblique strain and made a few appearances for the Braves, but a shoulder injury in July ended his season. This is nothing more than a depth add to the Phillies. Given the Braves have plenty of rotation depth, there was never much of a chance they retained him.

After the quarterback position held the team back all season, the Falcons were expected to acquire a new one this offseason, with many hoping it would come in the draft.
However, if Bill Belichick is hired as the head coach, a rookie quarterback seems far-fetched. As Matt Ryan recently noted, Belichick is much more likely to go the veteran route instead of grooming a younger signal caller.
If that’s the case, the Falcons won’t be using the 8th overall pick on a quarterback, opening up the opportunity to add an impact player elsewhere.
Honestly, quarterback may be a terrible decision at the 8th pick, especially if the Bears, Commanders, and Patriots all take quarterbacks as many expect. That would leave the Falcons overdrafting one of J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr — none of whom deserve to be a top 10 selection.
So, who might be available? Well, this is as loaded of a receiver class as we’ve seen, and the Falcons may have the option to pair Drake London with one of Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze to give the future quarterback as loaded of a skill group as any in the league.
