Alabama LB transfer Shawn Murphy visits FSU

Florida State addressed most needs via the Transfer Portal to round out one of the best transfer classes in the country, but one position still remained: Linebacker. The Seminoles moved swiftly to explore the addition of a linebacker who recently entered the transfer market, hosting Alabama linebacker Shawn Murphy on a visit Sunday through Monday.

Murphy entered the Transfer Portal on Saturday, several days after coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. He was in Tallahassee shortly after and wrapped up the visit on Monday morning.

The visit was still ongoing as of Monday morning.

Murphy was the No. 142 overall prospect with a 94 grade in the 2022 recruiting cycle. The product of Manassas, Va. chose Alabama over FSU, LSU, Georgia, Florida, and others out of high school. He was recruited by the Seminoles out of high school, visiting campus in June of 2021.

Murphy (6-2, 225) had three tackles in 13 games this past season, recording a PFF Grade of 85.3 on just 18 defensive snaps behind a deep linebacking corps.

He’s a rising redshirt sophomore.
