Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay: Key Packers Playoff Injury Updates on Jaire Alexander & Christian Watson & AJ Dillon.
ARLINGTON – The Green Bay Packers are crossing their fingers on three key players and their injury-related status for today’s playoff game here in Arlington vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
Defensive back Jaire Alexander sustained a “freak” injury to his ankle this week and is being termed “50/40” for the game.
Christian Watson, the playmaking wide receiver who has been out since Dec. 3, will work out pregame here at AT&T Stadium to test his hamstring, at which time it will be determined if he can play today, per NFL Network.
And running back AJ Dillon’s doubtful status means that he is unlikely to play, meaning that Aaron Jones will again carry the load for the Green Bay backfield.
The Cowboys’ major concern in the availability department regards No. 2 QB Cooper Rush, who is dealing with an illness. Third-string QB Trey Lance would move up the depth chart behind Dak Prescott if Rush cannot go.
Aaron Jones, meanwhile, is a perfectly good answer at running back as he has topped the 100-yard rushing mark in each of the last three games. (If Dillon can’t play, undrafted rookie Emanuel Wilson will be Jones’ backup.)
At receiver, Green Bay does have depth. But Watson is a deep threat for QV Jordan Love who burned Dallas in the meeting a year ago … so his help would be welcome.
The biggest issue regards Alexander, who has star quality essentially unmatched on his defense … and obviously unmatched on the depth chart. Alexander has missed over half the season due to injuries and a late-season goofball suspension. But that hasn’t necessary readied rookie Corey Ballentine and Carrington Valentine and Keisean Nixon to hold up against the likes of CeeDee Lamb.
