Green Bay Packers Pegged To Add 25-Year-Old Super Bowl Champion Amid Dallas Cowboys Matchup.
The Green Bay Packers have to be feeling good about the future of their franchise. The first full season with Jordan Love under center resulted in a playoff berth. The Packers have a chance to shock the NFL world when they head to AT&T Stadium on Sunday for their Wild Card matchup.
However, the playoffs starting hasn’t stopped analysts from thinking ahead.
The Green Bay Packers Could Add 25-Year-Old Super Bowl Champion In The Near Future
The NFL Staff at Bleacher Report highlighted the Packers adding Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. in free agency:
Top 2024 Free-Agency Target: S Antoine Winfield Jr., Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Cheeseheads have several impending free agents at safety, including Darnell Savage Jr. Meanwhile, Winfield projects to be one of the top players available on the open market and would be an upgrade over Savage.
The former has earned an elite grade from Pro Football Focus this season, as he has contributed on all three levels of the defense with 117 total tackles, five sacks and 15 combined interceptions and passes defended heading into this weekend.
The Safety position is one that will certainly need to be addressed in the near future. Moving on from Adrian Amos and the likelihood of moving on from Darnell Savage Jr. means there will be a significant hole at that position.
Winfield led all safeties in run-defense with a 92.5 Pro Football Focus grade in 2023. He also racked up six sacks and ranked seventh in coverage at 85.3(PFF). Adding that type of talent to the defense would be huge.
Lastly, Winfield’s age aligns with the unofficial “youth movement” the Packers committed to over the last few off-seasons. At 25, Winfield could be a long-term answer for the Packers’ defense.
