Mike Garafolo: ‘I believe Arthur Smith is on the shakiest of grounds’ in the NFC South.

Atlanta Falcons v New Orleans Saints

The speculations and reports that have been making the rounds regarding Arthur Smith’s future in Atlanta have had Falcons fans closely watching. Arthur Blank stated in the open a few weeks ago that, although he believes in Arthur Smith, the Falcons would evaluate Smith’s future after the current campaign. It was noteworthy that Blank withdrew his commitment to Smith in 2024 just two days following Atlanta’s humiliating defeat to the Carolina Panthers.

After that, the Falcons defeated the Indianapolis Colts at home before suffering an embarrassing defeat to the Chicago Bears away from home. To put it briefly, Smith doesn’t seem to be having a great season finale.

Although there have been speculations over Smith’s future, none of them have been confirmed by credible sources since Blank’s remarks in public. That all changed Monday when it was revealed by NFL dot com’s Mike Garafolo that Smith’s future in Atlanta is uncertain.

The little tape that aired on January 3rd contained a lot of intriguing details, but Garafolo thinks Smith is the NFC South’s hottest seat. In other words, if Smith can’t defeat the Saints on Sunday, it sounds like his time may have come to an end: “If [the Falcons] don’t play well against the New Orleans Saints, it does feel like it could be time.”
