Phillies Resign Philly Rob; Rob Thomson signed through 2025.

With free agency off to a slow start, the Phillies are making sure to retain their most crucial pieces. On Monday, December 4^th, The Phillies and Rob Thomson agreed to a contract extension through 2025, locking in Thomson for at least 2 more years. Thomson, who became the manager after Joe Girardi was relieved of his duties, has been brilliant since taking over the club, coaching the team to an impressive 155-118. After reaching the NLCS back-to-back years, Thomson looks to get the Phillies back to the promised land, hoping to close it out and join previous Phillies managers, Charlie Manuel and Dallas Green as the only World Series winning Managers within the Phillies organization.

After the Phillies got off to a rocky start in 2022, Joe Girardi was relieved of his duties, passing the reigns to Rob Thomson, the Phillies bench coach. Rob Thomson joined the Phillies back in 2018 as a bench coach for Gabe Kapler. Thomson went through the entire 2022 season as the interim manager and was awarded with a contract extension and removal of the interim tag after the season. After a 2^nd successful season, Phillies brass have added another year to the contract. “It’s good to know that you’ve got that extra year,” Thomson said Monday at baseball’s winter meetings, “but if I didn’t get it, it probably wouldn’t have bothered me.” Topper led the Phillies to a 90-72 record in 2023, netting the Phillies their first 90-win season since 2011. Thomson became the 3^rd manager in MLB history to win 18 of his first 25 playoff games. Thomson had said he planned to retire after the 2022 season until he was promoted to the manager’s job. Thomson said after this season he has no plans to quit and intended to manage as long as the Phillies wanted him. “One reason I was thinking about retirement was that it was just getting stale for me,” Thomson said. “But ever since I’ve stepped into this role, there’s no staleness — at all. There’s a new problem every day, new things to do every day. I’m upbeat, and I’m just happy. I don’t think there’s any question about my love for this team, this group of people, players and coaches, this organization, the city, I love it all. So this was a no-brainer for me.”

The Phillies believe Thomson is the right choice to lead us to the promised land, now it’s time for the team to prove it.
