Seitzer get recognized for Atlanta’s record-setting 2023 offense

Baseball America has announced that Atlanta Braves hitting coach Kevin Seitzer has been named their MLB Coach of the Year for 2023.

Setizer, 61, has been with the Braves since 2014.

Said Seitzer, after being informed by Braves PR staff of his award, “I said, ‘Well this has to be a mistake, because I just got to coach the offense of the year,’ I had some really good players who I got to coach, and I give them all the credit—and everybody else who goes into it.”

The Braves, who won the National League East for the sixth straight time during Seitzer’s decade with the club, paced all of MLB in several categories.

Atlanta’s 307 home runs was tied with the juiced-ball season 2019 Minnesota Twins for most in a single season in MLB history, while the team’s .501 slugging percentage was not only the highest of all time in MLB, but the first time any team had a collective slug at or over .500.

The Braves also lead all of MLB in batting average (.276), batting average (.344), hits (1,543), and runs (947).

But Seitzer doesn’t take the credit for himself, deferring to the players whenever possible.

“It’s a stinkin’ team effort, man. But it’s very cool. Very humbling. I don’t feel worthy at all. Hitting coaches just show up, grind and get after it and try to keep the ship afloat the best we can.”
