Injury update means Reo Hatate will miss upcoming Glasgow Derby.
One of the things that came out of Brendan Rodgers’ sit down with the media on Friday afternoon was the news that Reo Hatate would not be available for the Asian Cup in January and February for Japan, meaning be will most certainly be out of the Glasgow Derby match this month on the 30 December at Celtic Park.
It’s another blow for the team and the news is something that the supporters could so without at the moment, as we lick our wounds on what has been another agonising European campaign. The dropped points of late to Motherwell too has been a cause of concern, as it seems as though we have a real dearth in creativity within the side at present – which is ominous for the Festive period.
Against the Steelmen we looked hopelessly lost when it came to a creative spark in the final third and Stuart Kettlewell had his men well drilled for any potential threat from Rodgers and his men. Our continuous throwing the ball high and into the box was enough to make your eyes bleed as Kyogo was in a battle he had zero chance of winning that afternoon. The team has struggled to provide the Japanese international with any ammunition and he’s looked as frustrated as the spectators of late.
With news that Reo Hatate will now be out for a match that has taken on more significance lately as our team misfires in domestic action, it really is beginning to become a cause for concern the flatness of Celtic’s play.
When asked directly about the man who scored a brace in his first match against theRangers back in February of 2022, Rodgers said: “I’m not sure Reo will be available for that. He’s progressing well but the likelihood is he won’t be involved in that. Hopefully he’s back here by the end of that month. We’re judging that as we go. But he will be like a new signing for us.”
The players who are available really need to step it up over the course of these next few weeks. Our intensity within recent games leaves a considerable amount to be desired – and those who are hoping for a reprieve or last chance saloon at the club ought to buck up their ideas too – and show their hunger to fight for the manager, their teammates’ and the beyond loyal supporters.
