Anderson, 33, was a non-tender candidate and was shipped out rather than not getting a contract offer from Atlanta.

Signing last November with Atlanta after three years in Tampa Bay, Anderson was 4-0 with a 3.06 ERA in 35 games for the Braves, striking out 36 batters in 35.1 innings. He was placed on the injured list in July with a shoulder strain, ultimately ending his season.

Entering his second year of arbitration, he was estimated to receive a salary of $1.6M, per MLB Trade Rumor’s projections.

Word of the compensation is unknown at this time, but the Braves are a frequent trade partner of the Royals, having dealt outfielder Drew Waters there prior to last season and acquired now-departed Nicky Lopez at the trade deadline.

Prior to factoring in the return, the 40-man roster now stands at 36.
