Atlanta Braves could prod former fan-favorite to fill coaching void.

The Atlanta Braves are currently looking for a first-base coach and a third-base coach. A former Brave has been touted as a potential fit for the position.

Martin Prado played 7 seasons for the Atlanta Braves from 2006 to 2012. He was an all-star in 2010 and finished 9th in National League MVP voting. He was a fan favorite during his days as a player and now he is a legitimate option to return to Atlanta, this time on the coaching staff.

After Ron Washington and Eric Young left, the Braves had two vacant positions. Washington served as the third base coach and infield coach. Young was the first base coach. Let’s take a look at why Prado would be a great hire.

Understanding the Braves Culture

It is no secret that the new era of baseball has brought a lot of changes to the MLB. If there is one organization that still carries some traditional values, it’s the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta has always seemed to make it a priority to sign players and coaches who have had some form of relationship with the Braves organization.

Martin Prado most certainly would fit this description. Playing for the team for 7 seasons and being managed by one of the best ever, Bobby Cox, Prado understands what the Braves expect from their players and he could share his experience with the current roster to create an environment where everyone is on the same page.

We have mentioned the impact that Ron Washington had on the Atlanta infield during his tenure with the Braves. He may be irreplaceable in this aspect but Martin Prado could be the next best thing.

During his playing days, Prado served as the ultimate utility player. He played all infield positions at some point with the Braves and was even the team’s emergency catcher. Prado did not just take up space either.

He understood what it took to be successful and could play all of these positions at a very high level. His knowledge of the game and experience in multiple positions could make him a prime candidate for the infield coach position with the Braves in 2024.
