The Arizona Cardinals will activate Kyler Murray on Wednesday, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon.

ARIZONA — The Arizona Cardinals are expecting the return of quarterback Kyler Murray this week.

“If the week goes well, he’ll start,” Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters at his Monday press conference.

It’s been a long road to recovery for Murray, who tore his ACL and meniscus in December of last year. Murray was placed on the PUP list ahead of training camp and will see his practice window end this week, prompting the Cardinals to officially place him on the active roster ahead of Week 10’s home date with the Atlanta Falcons.

Gannon said the team plans to officially activate him on Wednesday, the first day of practice.

“It’s fun to be around him at practice. He’s ultra competitive and wants to play football, but everything that he’s been doing up until this point to get himself ready to go both on and off the field, rehab with the health stuff, with the mental stuff about playing quarterback, he’s far exceeded my expectations right now,” Gannon said.

Gannon confirmed if Murray wasn’t able to go, Clayton Tune would again start.

All eyes will be on Arizona as the Cardinals could gain their franchise quarterback back to the lineup. There’s some tough decisions to be made in terms of his future in the desert, but first his return must happen before the front office can make any significant decisions.
