For the Atlanta Braves, there’s officially two: outfielder Kevin Pillar and reliever Jesse Chavez. (There’s up to five more players that could hit free agency if their options aren’t picked up – decisions are due before Monday).

Pillar, who signed a minor league deal with Atlanta, ended up playing his way into a platoon role on the Major League roster, appearing in exactly half of the team’s games with a .228 batting average and 9 homers and 32 RBIs. He already posted a goodbye message to Atlanta just days after the season ended, and it’s expected that the 34 year-old will be looking for a better chance at a starting job with another organization.

Chavez, who turned 40 in August, was having one of his best seasons of the back half of his career when a comebacker off the bat of Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera left him with a fractured shin that caused him to miss most of the 2nd half of the regular season. Struggling to return in time to make the postseason roster, it’s believed Chavez will want one more opportunity to go out on his terms and Atlanta could very well bring him back on a repeat of 2023’s minor league deal that ended up paying him $1.2M after he made the major league club out of spring training.
