NFL Insider Gives Update on Kyler Murray.
ARIZONA — Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray won’t be suiting up for the team’s Week 8 battle against the Baltimore Ravens, though he’s on track to return quite soon.
The Athletic’s Diana Russini gave the following update on Murray:
“The Cardinals want Murray back on the field. There’s no gray area here despite some chatter during this summer that the Cardinals didn’t want to play Murray for business reasons involving his injury insurance.
“Based on multiple conversations, everything the quarterback has done since returning from ACL surgery has impressed the members of the staff and the team. From his rehab work to his presence around the building, the sense I get out of Arizona is they are excited to have Murray back under center.
“I was told the QB doesn’t have any physical restrictions and could be returning to play over the next three to four weeks. The most important reason for the Cardinals to get Murray back on the field is to assess and evaluate the overall body of work. The Cardinals, now led by first-time head coach Jonathan Gannon and general manager Monti Ossenfort, will be able to get their answer about the franchise’s future at the quarterback position over the course of the remainder of the season.
“Either Murray is their franchise quarterback or he could be dealt to a team in desperate need of a quarterback next year.”
Murray began the season on the PUP list and has missed what will have been the first half of the year following Week 8. He was a full participant each day of practice this week but was ruled doubtful ahead of Sunday.
The Cardinals are currently 1-6 with their only win coming in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys.
It’s believed Murray realistically could return in Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns or Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons.
