A Celtics injury report from Maik Nawrocki has Brendan Rodgers “excited” about the next stretch.

After two months of injury, Polish defender Maik Nawrocki is back in training, according to Brendan Rodgers.

After joining Celtic for £4.3 million in the summer from Legia Warsaw, Nawrocki played just three games before he pulled his hamstring in the Viaplay Cup loss to Kilmarnock. The 22-year-old lost his spot in the Hoops’ Champions League team as a result, as Liam Scales came out of the shadows to establish himself as a vital member and Nat Phillips was brought in on loan from Liverpool to provide insurance.

The stopper might play in the upcoming weeks, according to Rodgers, who claims the center-back has intensified his recovery after being tested during the international break.

“He’s (Maik Nawrocki) doing very well and trained over the last week or so,” he said on Celtic TV. The only ones left are Stephen Welsh and Liel Abada, who should return in December. Fortunately, that is beginning to lessen, and as the season approaches its busiest period, the numbers are beginning to increase again.

“You always expect injuries, but I believe the hardest part of the season was adjusting to the new players and becoming settled at the start. The players handled that really well, and now that things feel steady, we’re eager to move forward.”

The Scottish champions will benefit greatly from Nawrocki’s return, but he will have fierce competition for a starting spot from Nat Phillips, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Scales, and Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Scales, a former Aberdeen loanee, made his debut for the Republic of Ireland, and Rodgers recently called him “one of the biggest surprises of his career” after he stepped up to the plate during the Hoops’ defensive injury crisis.

Along with Carter-Vickers, Scales has maintained his position at the center of the defense, and Rodgers hinted that the jersey is still his to lose.

“Liam has gone from a player playing and thinking he’s leaving Celtic, to playing regularly in the team, to playing in the Champions League and making his international debut, all in a matter of weeks,” the speaker stated.
