Pundit Thinks Liam Scales Was ‘Desperate’ to Leave Celtic Before Summer Success.

Many people have been interested in Liam Scales this season because of his remarkable turnaround from appearing destined to depart Celtic in the summer to playing a significant role in both the league and Europe’s top competition.

Scales has received praise for his exceptional contributions to the Hoops from former St Johnstone player and Republic of Ireland international David McMillan.

In an interview with the RTE Soccer podcast, McMillan talked about how Scales may have thought about leaving Celtic earlier in the season to get more playing time.

Until a few months ago, nobody would have predicted that Liam Scales would become a mainstay in the Irish national squads and a great player in the Champions League. However, he was given the opportunity—more likely by accident than anything else—and he seized it, demonstrating his value to the team.

“I think Liam himself probably wanted to go and play football in the summer and didn’t expect to get games there with the competition there,” David McMillan stated. He clearly had a strong second half of the Aberdeen season last year, and injuries at Celtic gave him the chance to enter the game, where he has clearly impressed his management.

“To be competing at that level in the Champions League is an incredible experience, and right now, there isn’t a single Irish player doing that because he is the only one participating in the competition.

For any young League of Ireland player, like myself, starting at the UCD, it’s an incredible narrative. It’s a great narrative how he continued to succeed with Shamrock Rovers, proved himself at the highest level in the Scottish Premier League and the Champions League, and earned those first caps.
