Unexpected Celtic player could be next to get new contract.
Since Brendan Rodgers’ return to Celtic as manager, we have already witnessed this more than once. The first unexpected contract extension that the club handed out was to Stephen Welsh, the Celtic academy graduate who was widely expected to leave in the summer after failing to really establish himself in the team. But i think it’s safe to say that things change very quickly in football and it does not take long for careers to completely turn around.
Now it appears that another center-back may be the next to receive an unexpected new contract. That is, of course, none other than Liam Scales.
Many people believed that Scales’ departure from Celtic in the summer was somewhat inevitable. The previous season, he excelled while on loan at Aberdeen.
A surprising Celtic player might be the next to sign a new deal.
While Carl Starfelt left, Celtic added not one, but three new center backs over the summer. For the first part of the season, Nat Phillips was signed on a loan, along with Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki.
Scales had the opportunity to play because of a number of injuries at center back, which likely kept him from departing in the summer. To put it mildly, he has seize the moment with both hands.
This season, Scales has excelled at center-back for Celtic, and if he continues to play this well, it is difficult to see Rodgers relegating him to the bench any time soon. It might be appropriate to offer the former Shamrock Rovers player a new contract as a result.
