Sean Longstaff and Joelinton, two of Newcastle United’s top midfielders, are expected to begin contract negotiations soon.
Sean Longstaff and Joelinton, two midfielders, are both under contract at St. James’ Park until 2025, but according to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United is eager to secure their futures and reward them for their impressive play under Eddie Howe since his arrival on Tyneside.
Since Eddie Howe joined Newcastle and the team was acquired by Saudi Arabia, there has been an astonishing turnaround on the field. After a brief early-season wobble, they resumed where they left off in the current season after securing their return to Champions League football last season.
In their first Champions League home game in 20 years on Wednesday, they have returned to their ruthless best and put up an outstanding performance to achieve a surprising 4-1 victory over French champions Paris Saint-Germain. But they also deserve praise for their club’s growth off the field.
The Magpies are no longer missing out on their top objectives or losing outstanding players to rival clubs. Instead, it could be claimed that one of the best places to be in the Premier League is St. James’ Park. The Newcastle hierarchy is currently aiming to grant a flurry of contract extensions to current stars in order to recognize their significance, preserve the atmosphere in the locker room, and deter outside interest in their prized assets.
According to recent sources, the club’s pivotal playmaker Bruno Guimaraes is now prepared to sign a new long-term contract that runs until 2028, making him the highest-paid player in the team’s history.
Along with Bruno, the Magpies are aiming to provide extensions to Sean Longstaff and Joelinton, two other midfield superstars who were essential to the team’s recent success in Tyneside.
Howe is aware that he needs a solid core of players he can count on to perform time and time again. The aforementioned midfield pair have also consistently been in his starting lineup, making them among the players Howe can count on to perform well in the midfield at any given time.
One notable £40 million striker acquisition from Hoffenheim was Joelinton, who first joined at St. James’ Park in 2019. His time at Tyneside got off to a forgettable start as the Brazilian international immediately rose to ridicule in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old’s situation has improved under Howe, who has turned him from a flailing attacker into a midfield destroyer. After making 157 appearances to date, Joelinton went on to win Newcastle’s player of the season award in 2021–2022. He has since played a crucial role in the success of Newcastle.
Longstaff, on the other hand, is not given the credit he merits. He is not a prominent name on the club roster, yes. However, with him in the starting lineup, Newcastle’s midfield is more balanced and plays with more freedom. Because the Englishman does the grunt job, he goes unnoticed and is therefore a convenient scapegoat when things don’t go according to plan.
As demonstrated during the PSG game, he develops a wonderful ability to read the game, which also allows him to break up the game. By blocking passing lanes, he dismantles the opposing offense and forces them into alleys where it is simpler to win the ball.
